Roger Lee Sugg, 83, of River Forest, died on May 31, 2020, at Norwood Crossing in Chicago. Born in Pocahontas, Illinois, on March 17, 1937, he always enjoyed celebrating his birthday on St. Patrick’s Day. He married his wife Charlotte (Kallal) Sugg in 1961, after being introduced by mutual friends at a card party. Immediately smitten, he remained fervently so until his passing. They meditated together each morning during their retirement, a daily reminder of God’s presence in their lives and in their marriage.
Known as an excellent gift-giver, if you had good news to share, he was the first call you wanted to make. A proud graduate of the University of Illinois, he wore his orange and blue often. He worked in corporate insurance for over 40 years and had many great adventures, traveling the world with his clients, and often bringing his wife along. He loved beautiful cars, the city of Chicago, and ice cream sandwiches, but most of all he loved his family, especially the group he called “the original six,” his wife and four children.
Roger was the son of Helen (Zbinden) and Marion Sugg, and the brother of Joan (Sugg) Swofford, Donna (Sugg) Swofford, and Jon Sugg, all of whom preceded him in death. He was the father of James, Mark, Mary (Sugg) Carlin, and Ann, and the grandfather of Stephanie, Collin, Sophia, Erin and Aidan.
His ashes will be committed to the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida, according to his wishes. If you would like, the family asks that you honor Roger with a gift to his grandson’s charity, Aidan’s Diaper Fund, at tinyurl.com/aidansdiaperfund.
