Two men wearing face masks robbed 7-Eleven, 240 Chicago Ave., at 11:16 p.m., May 30, leaving with booty worth only about $6. The first man said he had a gun and demanded the clerk open the cash register and safe. He grabbed cash and cigarettes, and then both men left the building.
Police describe the first man as black, of light complexion, about 6-feet tall. He wore a blue plastic jacket and blue face mask. The second man is described as black, of dark complexion, about 5-feet-6, wearing dark clothing and a dark facemask.
Vehicular hijacking
Two men in their late teens took car keys, then drove off in the victim’s 2019 black Honda CRV with a third person between 9:55 p.m. and 9:59 p.m., May 30, in the 300 block of South Grove Avenue. The loss is estimated at $24,000.
Burglary
Someone entered a 2016 Nissan through an unlocked door and removed a black-purple Coach purse containing a gray Guess wallet with cash, credit cards and identification enclosed between 6:05 and 7:27 a.m., May 30, in the 1000 block of South Lombard Avenue. The estimated loss is $620.
A bottle of Prada cologne and a credit card were taken from a black Jeep Cherokee with an unlocked door, parked in the 1000 block of North Humphrey Avenue between 2:45 and 2:48 a.m., May 29. The estimated loss is $150.
A witness reported seeing a juvenile enter a blue Chevy Malibu and take two wallets containing cash and credit cards at 10:03 p.m., May 30, in the 900 block of North Taylor Avenue. The witness described the boy as being about 11-13 years in age, wearing a pink pullover with a white Adidas symbol on the back, and black pants. The estimated loss is $160.
Someone broke into American Jewelers, 6151 North Ave., by shattering the glass pane window and pushing in the security gate. Once inside, the person damaged the display case and attempted to enter a secured room, but was unsuccessful at 11:25 p.m., May 31. The estimated damage and loss are unknown.
Someone damaged the front door glass and broke into Suds 2000, 6045 W. North Ave., and once inside, damaged an ATM, a vending machine and a washing machine card vending machine between 10:40 p.m. and 10:49 p.m., May 31. Estimated damage is $20,000.
The glass windows of a white Mercedes Benz Sprinter were damaged and a black-gray camera, a black-gray Apple 6S iPhone cellphone, white-black adapter, black Samsung cords and dark blue Adidas bag containing men’s clothing and a bottle of cologne were taken from inside the vehicle between 5 p.m., May 31 and 9:10 p.m., June 1, in the 1200 block of North Austin Boulevard. The loss is estimated at $830.
Someone ransacked the interior and took a pocketknife from a black Chevy Trailblazer with an unlocked door, parked in the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue between 9:30 p.m., May 30 and 3 a.m., May 31. The estimated loss is $70.
Theft
Someone took a box of silverware from the basement of a residence in the 1100 block of South Grove Avenue between 3 p.m., May 20 and 7 p.m., May 25. The estimated loss is $7,000.
The catalytic converter was cut from a white Acura TL while parked in the 500 block of North Oak Park Avenue between 6 p.m., May 27 and 1:05 p.m., May 29. Estimated loss unknown.
Criminal damage to property
Someone shattered the rear driver side window of a 2005 Ford Escape parked in the 400 block of South Harvey Avenue between 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., May 25.
A man was observed carving into the paint of a vehicle and damaging its front and back windows at 3:59 p.m., May 28 in the 1100 block of Garfield Street. Police estimate the damage at $1,000.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports May 26- June 1 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
