The Park District of Oak Park keeps lining up partners for the long-anticipated community recreation facility, an $18 million venture that looks more and more like it’s possible every time we turn around.
Last week, the Oak Park Township Mental Health Board pledged $1.5 million toward the project in exchange for the rec center setting aside office space for the township to provide mental health services there.
The partnership was a direct result of input the park district sought from the community, specifically high-school-age residents looking for a more comfortable way to seek mental health services.
If the park district is successful in pulling off the rec center, that partnership will be a real win-win for the community as a whole and a feather in the cap of the park district, which is putting its money where its mouth is in trying to make the recreation center a village resource for an array of services and more than just a place to get in a good workout.
