It was good, if surprising, to discover that the special OPRF board meeting last Monday on the topic of the yearbook was being video recorded by the school. Within a few hours it was posted to the school’s YouTube channel.
Made us wonder once again why this isn’t the norm. The old explanations that it would cost too much and be too complicated to wire the school board room for video are history. Give a person an iPad and every board meeting could be live-streamed and archived. No one is looking for slick production values.
For a school that recognizes it is sometimes held in suspicion, unfairly at this point, in our opinion, for a lack of transparency, this would be both a potent symbol and a very useful method of improving governance.
Time to get this done — or think up a new lame excuse.
