Downtown Oak Park, a nonprofit business organization, has commissioned local artist Jill Kramer to produce three original works for its 2016 street pole banners and marketing material.

Downtown Oak Park challenged artists to “capture the spirit of downtown Oak Park,” according to a press release.

“I was immediately drawn to a few of my favorite stores as visual inspiration,” Kramer said. “It was hard to narrow it down to three. I wanted to capture simple views that could translate the feeling of familiarity, warmth and nostalgia. I tried to use color in a way that represents the actual buildings while adding a visual punch meant to mimic the vibrant life of the area.”

Kramer is known for her use of “pattern, texture, mark-making and saturated use of color.” Her most recent work envisions “landscape as an idealized sense of space and memory.”

Her work has previously been featured in Chicago Bar Association Magazine and the children’s book, Telling Tales: 14 Stories to Share with Young Children. Her work is available at www.JillAKramer.com.
