The presidential primary election is fast approaching, and one Berwyn business owner is “feeling the Bern” and letting everybody know it.
Brendan O’Connor, owner of Big Guy’s Sausage, 7021 Roosevelt Rd., posted photos on Facebook today of his new temporary sign, rebranding the hot dog stand as Bernie’s Charbroiled Sausages. The sign also proclaims the fast-food restaurant is “A small business for Bernie Sanders” and offers “Free fries for early voters.”
O’Connor could not immediately be reached by phone, but he said on his post on Facebook that, “We are quite fond of Bernie over here, and we wanted to show our support for him. We thought this was a good way to get his message out there and have fun with it.”
The restaurant also has added non-Bernie items to the menu inspired by other candidates. Customers can now order a Trump wiener – a single cocktail wiener for $19.99 – and the Hillary sausage “which we will be changing every hour on the hour.”
“We developed a Ted Cruz-inspired sausage, but nobody liked it and we had to take it off the menu,” O’Connor joked on the website.
Customers also can get a Heart-Bern, which is a homemade corned-beef sandwich on marble rye.
“Maybe the senator himself will stop in for a sandwich,” O’Connor said on the internet post. “That would make our day over here at Bernie’s Sausages.”
