Robinson’s Ribs on Madison Street is moving, but not very far.

The longtime Oak Park rib joint at 940 Madison St. completed a deal to lease the space formerly occupied by Leona’s restaurant at 848 Madison St.

Charlie Robinson, owner of the barbecue restaurant, tells Wednesday Journal that it’s uncertain when Robinson’s will be out of the current space and into Leona’s, but indicated it likely would be sometime next year.

Robinson said he hopes to get financial support for the move from the Madison Street Tax Increment Finance District.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said. “It has to be right before we pull the curtains.”

Robinson’s is moving because the village of Oak Park purchased his building for $495,000 earlier this year. The building will be part of the redevelopment of the School District 97 building at 970 Madison St.

Robinson’s is holding a moving sale for the next four Saturdays and Sundays, through Dec. 16 during store hours at the restaurant, 940 Madison St.

Items for sale include surplus gas grills, desks, chairs, tables, bikes, scooters, among other miscellaneous items.
