The Oak Park Windmills 10U softball team notched six wins and went undefeated in the Rumble in Rosemont on May 2-4, securing a bit to the USSSA World Series. Over the course of three days, the team scored 61 runs, while giving up only six behind strong pitching from Cassie Metzger, Alex Prouty, and Brinkley Kita.

Metzger pitched three complete game shutouts and surrendered only one hit and one walk in 18 innings of work. She struck out 46 batters, and threw no-hit, no-walk games versus Top Tier in pool play and the Blue Wave in the championship matchup.

Bailey Nicholoff, Maddi Grant and Metzger combined for four home runs and four doubles in the tournament, and the Windmills 10U team collectively batted .405 for the weekend.

This is the Windmills 10U team’s third Championship win of the 2013-2014 season, coming after its victories in ASA National Qualifiers in Lemont and Lisle in September and October. The team also placed second in a USSSA Rumble in Rosemont tournament held in early March.

Fielding teams from ages 8 (and under) through age 18 each year, the Oak Park Windmills is a not-for-profit fastpitch travel softball organization that provides opportunities for young girls and high school athletes to train to become collegiate-quality softball players. Thus far, the Windmills organization has successfully helped 103 young athletes continue their careers in college.

Tryouts for the 2014-2015 season will be held in early August.
