Monday was the first day candidates could file petition signatures to get on the ballot for a raft of local elections to be held on April 9, 2013. Some races attracted a good number of candidates while other races have yet to draw attention. In some cases, there are candidates who have announced plans to run but did not file petitions on the first day.
The filing deadline remains open through Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. Petitions are filed locally at either village hall in Oak Park or River Forest and at local school districts.
