That little corner space at Oak Park and Madison, the forgotten nook of the otherwise wonderfully green Walgreens, has been sitting empty, filled with an odd assortment of highly visible junk, since the store opened. It is there because some overthinking Oak Park official decided this project would be better if there were a second, perfect little business sharing the space with Walgreens.

That there was no parking and several logical uses were specifically prohibited under the lease terms, seems not to have occurred to the micromanagers at village hall. So the space sat vacant year after year. Walgreens has always wanted the space and now has gotten its application all the way to the village board.

If things went according to plan Monday night, the village board sent Walgreens’ request out to the Plan Commission for endless, mind-numbing review.

Just lease the space to Walgreens already!
