Someone spray-painted graffiti referencing Waubonsie Valley in the middle of the football stadium at Oak Park and River Forest High School, overnight Nov. 2.
Words were also spray-painted on the north side wall of the stadium, located in the 600 block of Lake Street. Athletic Director John Stelzer said the school wasn’t sure if it was done by OPRF students trying to motivate their team or Waubonsie Valley students, but it was cleaned up by game time.
OPRF Principal Nathaniel Rouse called police Saturday morning. The graffiti was removed by the school’s buildings and grounds staff in time for the afternoon game.
Theft
Someone removed an air-conditioning unit from a fenced-in area behind One Point Aikido Center in the first block of Lake Street between the night of Oct. 27 and morning of Oct. 29. Estimated loss is $2,000.
A coin jar was removed from the bedroom of an unlocked apartment in the 1000 block of Pleasant Street between the afternoon of Oct. 26 and morning of Oct. 29. Estimated loss is $110.
Someone removed six copper post caps from the front steps of a residence in the 700 block of South Harvey Avenue, overnight Oct. 31. Estimated loss is $140.
An unknown person removed an unsecured red Trek bicycle from the common area lobby of a building in the 800 block of Lake Street, the afternoon of Nov. 1. Estimated loss is $425.
A woman’s purse was removed from her grocery cart while she was shopping at Jewel in the 7500 block of Lake Street, the afternoon of Oct. 29. The purse was later turned into the store but was missing $130 in cash.
A gray wallet was removed from the purse of a woman eating at Panera Bread in the 7300 block of Lake Street, the afternoon of Oct. 29. The loss included $80 in cash, a social security card, a driver’s license and credit cards.
Robbery
A 20-year-old Chicago man and a 16-year-old Chicago boy were arrested for robbery during the early morning of Oct. 29 in the 1100 block of Lake Street. A Chicago resident had been waiting for a cab on that block around 2 a.m. when he observed a vehicle drive by slowly. He was then approached by three subjects and one said, “Give me some money.” The other men approached him from the rear and put their arms around him to hold him down. The victim was struck when he tried to break free. The offenders removed an iPod Touch from his pocket and fled.
Two unknown men approached an Oak Park resident in the 200 block of Jackson Boulevard, the morning of Oct. 31, and removed his Samsung Galaxy cellphone from his hand. They ran to enter a brown vehicle that drove away. Estimated loss is $200.
Someone approached a woman, the morning of Oct. 31, in the 700 block of South Grove Avenue and pulled a black purse from her shoulder before fleeing on foot southbound from the scene. The purse contained cash, an Illinois state ID, a checkbook and other personal items. Estimated loss is $42.
A group of offenders knocked an Oak Park juvenile to the ground in the first block of Lake Street, the night of Oct. 31, kicked him and took his skateboard, book bag and hat. Estimated loss is $170.
Burglary
A Garmin GPS unit and $4 in cash were removed from an unlocked 1994 Dodge Caravan in the 800 block of South Lombard Avenue, overnight Oct. 28. Estimated loss is $104.
A Dell laptop computer and a red iPod Nano were removed from the rear seat of a vehicle inside an unlocked garage behind the 900 block of North Euclid Avenue, overnight Oct. 26. Estimated loss is $1,253.
An unknown person entered a Nissan Altima in the 600 block of South Lombard Avenue between the night of Oct. 27 and morning of Oct. 29 and removed a Burberry watch, $20 in coins, a flashlight and a pocket knife. Estimated loss is $340.
Someone entered a garage in the 600 block of South Highland Avenue between the afternoons of Oct. 26 and Oct. 28 and removed a black bicycle and a Garmin GPS unit and clothing from an unlocked grey Mazda inside the garage. Estimated loss is $800.
A Husky air compressor, a Dewalt electronic lug nut gun, a Husky ratchet set and a Hitachi staple gun and nail gun were removed from a Chevy Express van in the 100 block of North Ridgeland Avenue, the morning of Nov. 1. Estimated loss is $810.
An unknown person entered a 2007 Ford Focus in the 700 block of North Boulevard, overnight Nov. 1, by breaking the passenger-side window and removed a Garmin GPS unit. Estimated loss is $625.
An in-dash Clarion radio was removed from a 2000 red Subaru Impreza in the 800 block of North Kenilworth Avenue, overnight Nov. 1. The offender also damaged the rear seat and the rear trunk lock. Estimated loss is $650.
A Jensen radio and a 15-inch TV monitor were removed from a Ford Expedition in the 900 block of South Oak Park Avenue, overnight Nov. 3. Estimated loss is $700.
Someone ransacked a vehicle in a garage in the first block of Harrison Street between the night of Nov. 2 and morning of Nov. 4 and removed a cellphone, CDs, $6 in cash and the Illinois certificate of title. Estimated loss is $181.
Criminal damage to property
Someone damaged the driver-side mirror of a vehicle in the 600 block of Harrison Street, overnight Oct. 30. Estimated damage is $500.
A pane of glass on a side service door of a residence in the 800 block of North Grove Avenue was broken, the evening of Oct. 31. Estimated damage is $200.
A book bag and textbooks were removed through a defective open window of a vehicle in the 100 block of Van Buren Street, the night of Nov. 3. Estimated loss is $500.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports filed Oct. 30-Nov. 5 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an apprehension.
