Anyone who has an animal – regardless of species or size – knows that they can be a lot of work.  From the care and feeding they require, to the affection and training we offer them, our animals become part of our family, and hence, responsibility.

But there are animal lovers and owners with a special selflessness that volunteer to help animals that will never be their own.

Today, Labor Day, as many families were planning celebratory cookouts and picnics, partaking in a last well-deserved dip in the pool, there were people at Animal Care League feeding animals, walking dogs, socializing cats.  And that’s just the fun stuff.  A handful cleaned up messes, scooped litter boxes, washed dishes, and folded laundry.

And best yet, Canine Massage Chicago came (as they do most every Monday) and treated our dogs to some therapeutic TLC.

By spending just a small amount of time at Animal Care League, anyone can understand the amount of work that goes into the care of our animals until they find loving homes of their own.  Our volunteers are our coworkers, family, and fellow advocates for the animals that we house.

So, to them, on this Labor Day, we say thank you for help and support.  We truly could not do it without you.
