For the first time in its history, OPRF High School retired the number (32) of one its sports heroes on Friday night. The honor rightly went to Iman Shumpert, who graduated in 2008 and come Christmas Day will make his debut in the NBA.

Shumpert was well regarded during his OPRF years as both an exceptional ball player and as a teammate. He displayed those comfortable and generous qualities Friday night in the field house as he accepted the honors while also spending plenty of time posing for pictures — many of which now adorn the Facebook pages of his hometown admirers.

It started here. It is going to be fun to watch where this native son takes his great talent.
