VOP-TV, the Village of Oak Park’s in-house television station, took home a bonanza of awards in a recent competition, the village announced Wednesday.

Altogether, the station took home seven awards, including three first-place nods, at the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors annual gathering in San Francisco last week.

The nonprofit professional group received some 700 entries in the competition, according to a village press release, from municipal TV stations in both the U.S. and Canada. Programs honored included “Mini Murals Adorn Oak Park El Tracks,” “Saving Ash Trees” and “Molly Shortbreath.”

VOP-TV is run by Manager Joe Kreml, who has won more than 30 industry awards since joining the staff at village hall in 2001, according to the press release.
