Customers shop for deals shortly after the store announced in July it would be closing.File 2011

Friday, Sept. 16, is the last day of business for the Borders bookstore in Oak Park.

The Ann Arbor, Mich.-based chain is winding down at its remaining stores, with all expected to be shuttered by Sunday, according to Borders’ Facebook page. Prices have been drastically slashed, going for as little as 10 percent of the original price. Store fixtures — such as signs, bookshelves and tables — are also up for grabs.

Borders had been trying to wrestle itself out of bankruptcy since filing for Chapter 11 in February. But the company couldn’t find anyone to take over its stores, and in July it started liquidating all remaining inventory.
