A group of local volunteers is starting to review the practices of Oak Park’s Building and Property Standards Department this week, following the collapse of an Arts District property earlier this month.
After the façade of 201-211 Harrison crumbled on Aug. 10, Village Manager Tom Barwin asked the Building Codes Advisory Commission to take a closer look at the building department to see whether the situation was handled properly.
Last week, the citizen panel received a CD of information, with before and after pictures of the façade from recent inspection reports. The commission is tentatively scheduled to meet this Friday at 5:30 p.m. at village hall, 123 Madison, to start discussing in what direction it wants to take the review.
Staff asked the commission to figure out whether they need any help from consultants to complete the review, and what the scope of the evaluation might be.
