The River Forest village board recently adjusted village curfew policies for teens to align them exactly with Oak Park’s curfew. That was a smart move between two communities where there is a free flow of teens across Harlem Avenue.

Now a week after we reported that Oak Park is contemplating a change in how it deals with the possession of small amounts of marijuana, we are reporting that River Forest police officials expect to make a similar recommendation to its village board this fall.

It is not a coincidence that the high school parent group IMPACT has been involved in discussions with both departments.

A key way to address the use and abuse of marijuana among teens is to shift enforcement away from arrest and prosecution and toward treatment. Both communities are now on that logical path.
