River Forest Police confirmed that a 29-year-old Chicago woman is dead and three individuals are in custody after a shooting July 11 in a parking lot near Dominican University’s Priory campus.

Chervon Alexander, of the 1300 block of North Mayfield in Chicago, was pronounced dead at approximately 11:04 p.m. Monday night at Loyola Medical Center. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to a spokesperson from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

According to a River Forest Police Department press release, the shooting occurred at 10:22 p.m., in Priory Park, on the 7200 block of Division. Officers and firefighters called to the scene attempted to save the woman’s life. She was transported to a Loyola Medical Center.

The suspects were picked up about four minutes later at Madison and Harlem by Oak Park and Forest Park police officers. A weapon was also recovered.

The police statement said that when River Forest officers arrived at the scene, a witness informed them that a woman had been shot by a man who fled eastbound on Division in a gray vehicle. River Forest police immediately broadcast the information, which led to the traffic stop where the suspects were taken into custody.

River Forest Deputy Chief Craig Rutz said that River Forest police are unable to give further details on the investigation.

The victim was a resident of North Mayfield in Chicago, and neither the victim nor the suspects were Dominican University students.

Two of the individuals being held in connection with the case are considered suspects while one is considered a “person of interest.” One is a resident of the City of Blue Island in Cook County; the other two are residents of Chicago. No further details about their identities were available at press time.

Dominican University issued a statement on their website outlining details of the shooting.

“According to River Forest Police, this incident did not involve Dominican University students and there is no danger to the Dominican community,” the statement read. “Our prayers are with the family of the victim.”

According to the police statement, the suspects and several witnesses to the incident are being interviewed by Assistant State’s Attorneys and that no charges have yet been filed.
