Jacques Conway’s resignation from the Oak Park and River Forest High School board is a blow. Conway brought a unique body of life experience to the job. Long an Oak Park cop, Conway spent some of those years inside OPRF as a school resource officer. He is also a minister with a focus on teens. He brought both realism and credibility to discussions on a board we have thought, over the years, to be lacking in both.
We wish him the best and thank him for his service.
Now the board must fill a vacant position at a critical time. Of course, the school has opened a selection process that is open to all comers. But as the board evaluates applicants and moves toward an appointment, we urge them to seriously consider appointing John Allen, a candid and straightforward board member who narrowly lost his reelection bid in April.
