Danielle Donates of Oak Park was spotted at a local boutique clad in a bold coral design, a spright spring frock layered over black leggings, and saffron wedges. She shows us how vibrant colors can be mixed and matched effortlessly.
A playful palette of summer hues come together in a sophisticated ensemble. Find out Danielle’s favorite local shop and what piece she thinks every woman should own to make a great first impression.
Describe your own fashion style in three words. Urban Provincial (The third word is left blank for reinvention!)
What is your favorite fashion era and why? I have a weakness for contrast which is why I love the 40’s! Two of the greatest fashion influences in the 40’s included Dior’s hyper feminine silhouettes and androgynous military inspired styles. Think Rosie the Riveter meets Dior’s ‘The Look’! (See photo gallery)
From whom do you get your fashion inspiration? My favorite spot for instant fashion inspiration would be the The Sartorialist. This blog covers fashions on the streets of NYC, Milan, Paris and other fashionable destinations. (I love this blog! Ladies and gents, if you haven’t stopped by, you’re missing out.)
What are your favorite local shops? My favorite spot is FILONI, with so many amazing artists that defy age appropriate clothing, they make everyone feel good!!!! I do frequent Muse, Heather [the owner] has a knack for finding sweet pieces with an urban edge.
What is your greatest fashion indulgence? There is nothing better than indulging in a wonderful coat or jacket. Living in a climate with all four seasons forces us to be in outerwear for the majority of the year. Your coat is your first impression…make it count!
What is the one item you think every woman should own? Every woman should have a stunning raincoat in their arsenal. A raincoat is a great multi-tasker, it can be a Spring coat, a Fall coat and of course a raincoat!
Advice for women who want to be stylish but don’t know where to start: Have confidence! Clothing always looks better on a confident woman.
