A vehicular hijacking was carried out by two unknown offenders on the 100 block of S. Maple Ave. in Oak Park at just after 9 p.m. Wednesday night.
A woman was approached by two young men as she stood next to her silver Volkswagen Jetta. The first suspect asked her for a ride, and when she refused his request, stated: “What if I have a gun, will you give me your car?”
She then tossed her keys in the suspect’s direction and quickly moved away from the scene. The two offenders entered the vehicle and drove away in an unknown direction.
The first suspect was described as a black male between the age of 19 and 20, 5 feet 10 and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a puffy black hooded jacket. The second suspect was described as a black male, 20 years old, 6 feet tall and 150 pounds, last seen wearing dark clothing.
The estimated loss was $15,000.
“It’s under investigation,” said Oak Park Police Department Commander LaDon Reynolds. He said the car hijacking appears to be unrelated to another hijacking incident that took place on Jan. 10. “From what I’m seeing the descriptions are not similar. We have not connected it,” he said.
