The 16U Powerhouse Black Volleyball team, made up of several players from the Oak Park and River Forest area, swept through the Quicksilver Invitational Tournament at Lewis University.
Powerhouse Black brought home the championship title with a victory over SPVB Mizuno in a dramatic best two out of three championship match. After not losing a game in its previous five matches, Powerhouse Black lost the first game of the finals 25-23. They rebounded to win the second game 25-19 and closed out the match and championship with a 16-14 win in the deciding game. The Quicksilver Invitational included 16 of the top 16U teams in the Chicago area.
Powerhouse Black will travel to St. Louis for a national tournament later this month.
OPRF High School student-athletes on Powerhouse Black include Levi Algozino, Jared Bernard, John Callahan, John Gibbons, Elliot Mertz, Henrique Menenez and Drew Narsutis. Other team members are Alex Bressler, Earl Schultz and Tomasz Wesolowski.
