The decision Monday by a former Oak Park park board member to withdraw his challenge to the petitions of three candidates for the board is a happy one. Contested elections are all too rare in our villages. That David Kindler concluded the upside of an open discussion of our parks outweighed petition concerns that were not as serious as he first believed is a credit to him and to his commitment to the parks.
Now the six candidates for the three seats in the April election need to show us what an honest and forthright campaign ought to look like. Real issues. Real ideas. Hold the nonsense. Hold the vitriol.
