The term “global warning” is universally known, if not universally accepted by all. Aug. 8, marked the 35th anniversary of Wallace Broecker’s research paper on climate change that coined the term.

Broecker, a 1949 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, wrote his paper, “Climate Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming” in 1975. It was published in Science Magazine.

Broecker is also a 1997 OPRF Tradition of Excellence honoree, an award that recognizes distinguished alumni.
