A Wednesday Journal columnist can always guarantee a reaction when he or she writes about personal parking peccadilloes: Did park. Shoulda parked. Wish I’d parked. Always ends with “and, of course, I got a ticket!”
We love to pile on about parking in Oak Park.
So when Jack Crowe wrote recently about having received a moving violation for his rolling salute to the stop sign at East and Pleasant, we anticipated letters in support of the “Chicago stop” and critical of quota-seeking, revenue-raising coppers. To date, we’re running about even with one writer saying Columnist Crowe should pull up his big-boy pants and stop whining. Another writer admitted her guilt in violating a right-turn-only sign but declared her “complete solidarity” with our miscreant columnist; her defense was, in part, that she was coming home from a poetry reading. Did we mention that Crowe is a playwright?!
As an institution, we believe all of our readers ought to obey the law. But we like it when our columnists occasionally step in it.
