There has been a considerable uproar about drastically rising real estate taxes. I too would like to pay lower taxes, but for those taxes, I would like to feel I am getting my money’s worth. In Oak Park, we pay top dollar for districts 97 and 200, districts which seem to be coasting on reputations earned generations ago, and a promise no longer being delivered.
The leadership’s answer cannot always be to give them more money and leave them alone. The answer first lies in the leadership who must give us (the residents and taxpayers) value commensurate with the level of funding we are providing, or stand down on the level of funding they expect.
I’d be content to pay the taxes if we were getting the schools we are paying for.
