The Fenwick swim team welcomed its opponents to the Oak Park Sectional by winning 9 of 12 events on Saturday, and taking first place (323) for the third consecutive season.

Fenwick’s cross-town rival, Oak Park and River Forest, swam well enough to finish second with 256 and also qualify for the State Meet to be held at Evanston High School beginning Friday.

Liz Bell led the Friars by swimming to a team and pool best in both the 50-yard freestyle (:24.12) and the 100-yard butterfly (:58.42). Keely Baldwin finished first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.63, while fellow junior Amy Krzesmienski won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:26.01. Danielle Buglio and Kaitlin Kysiak rounded out Fenwick’s top individual finishes. Buglio took first in the 100-yard backstroke (:58.60, a team record) and Kysiak in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.85).

Fenwick also won all three relays.

“I’m glad we swam well, glad we won the sectional, but it’s not this team’s main focus right now,” said Fenwick head coach Renee Miller. “We want to finish in the top 12 at State, and that’s our focus right now.”

Meghan Barron also qualified for Fenwick by taking second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :54.27.

“We weren’t fully rested for this meet, but the girls came out and swam outstandingly,” added Miller. “We now just want to crack the top 12 barrier [this week].”

The Huskies outswam Riverside-Brookfield, Lane Tech and Leyden. Erika Rosenwinkel had OPRF’s best finish, taking second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :24.97.
