It is not the end of the saga of West Sub’s decades of decline. But the announcement that landlord Reddy Patlola had bought out the failed operator Manoj Prasad is certainly a milestone. Our Bill Dwyer has been in an often empty courtroom for hours in recent days as lawyers, principals and a judge negotiated an unexpected outcome. For two weeks we’ve been anticipating a court-appointed receiver would take over the shuttered West Sub and Weiss hospitals. Instead, the sale. So many details to come. Will Insight Health take on this reclamation project? How much did Patlola pay out? How much did Prasad walk away from this debacle with?
The Journal and Austin Weekly have been on this story relentlessly and we will remain fully focused on it. That’s what independent local newsrooms do.
