The village board OK’d a handful of parking rate hikes on Monday, none of which will affect on-street meters.
The major switch is an increase in Oak Park’s public parking garages, where motorists will now pay $2 for the second hour of parking, rather than $1. Oak Park had considered eliminating the first free hour in garages, but did not.
The village is also increasing what it costs for parking permits in the village, including hiking monthly permits from $90 to $105, and increasing quarterly parking permits between $16 and $51 each quarter. Altogether, the changes will raise an extra $350,000 for the village in 2012.
Trustees Bob Tucker and Adam Salzman voted against the rate changes, worried about their impact on businesses in a weak economy.
