Alexander Magee, 93, died at his Oak Park home on April 11, 2016. Born on Aug. 31, 1922, he served in World War II as First Lieutenant Lead Bombardier in the 8th Air Force at Lavenham, England. He led 29 heavy bombardment formation attacks on Nazi targets in Occupied France and Germany in B24s and B17s and was twice decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal five times.
After discharge, he studied under the GI Bill and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University and worked as a real estate broker in Oak Park and River Forest since 1971.
Alexander Magee is survived by his companion, Joyce Stockholm; his daughters, Mary (Frank) Pellegrini, Jean Magee, Joan (the late AJ) Slanina, Kate (Marc) Linne, and Maggie (John) Hayes; his grandchildren, Dr. Anne Slanina, Emily (Andrew) Tague, Katie (Jeremie) Mascheri, Jake Linne (fiancée Allison Schier), Drew Linne, Frankie Pellegrini, Molly Hayes, and Jack Hayes; and his great-grandchildren, Max, Louie, Frankie, and Viole. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Deegan Magee.
A memorial visitation is planned for Friday, April 22, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather on Saturday, April 23, for an 11 a.m. memorial Mass at Ascension Church.
