Jaida Garland had five kills and an ace to help lead the Oak Park and River Forest varsity girls volleyball team past visiting St. Laurence 23-25, 25-22, and 25-13 in a non-conference match, Oct. 3. 

Edie Carroll had four kills, Bella Gray three kills, and Mia Mahoney two aces for the Huskies (14-6), who visit Fenwick in the East Avenue Showdown, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. 

Fenwick girls volleyball  
The Friars picked up a pair of home victories last week, defeating Hinsdale South on Oct. 1, 25-14, 25-13, and Taft 25-12, 25-19. Fenwick (11-15) has won four of its past five matches. 

Against Hinsdale South, the Friars were led by Emily Drumm (seven kills, block), Jordan Rossi (seven kills, five aces, three blocks), Maggie Hiller (six kills, four aces, 11 digs), Taylor Durham (four kills, three blocks), Hailey Bernahl (three kills, six digs, 16 assists), and Sophia Grossman (two kills, four blocks). 

In the Taft victory, Drumm had eight kills and three aces, Hiller seven kills and three aces, Rossi four kills and an ace, Bernahl 11 assists and four aces, and Phoebe Baker 14 assists. 

Before their match with OPRF, the Friars visit Westmont, Oct. 7, at 6:30 p.m. 

OPRF field hockey 
At St. Ignatius, Oct. 3, OPRF lost a tight 3-2 match to the Wolfpack. Seniors Maeve Fishburne and Ivy Schottler each scored a goal, and sophomore goalkeeper Jeannette Fort made eight saves for the Huskies (6-7). 

Following the home finale against Glenbard West on Oct. 6 after press time, OPRF will visit Evanston Township in the regular-season finale, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. The Huskies begin the Illinois High School Field Hockey Association Playoffs on Oct. 15.
