The parent group Screen Sense Oak Park is hosting a workshop for parents at Whittier School, 715 N. Harvey, Oak Park, on Wednesday Oct. 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The title of the workshop is “School Gave Your Child an iPad. Now What? – A Workshop for Parents, by Parents”

“Join fellow parents for a hands-on workshop focused on kids and school devices,” says the email from Screen Sense Oak Park founder Lauren Johnson announcing the workshop. “We’ll talk about why screen use in and out of the classroom matters, then get practical: how to lock down the iPad, manage settings, limit distractions, and set boundaries that work for your family.

“We’ll also share where Screen Sense Oak Park stands in our conversations on tech usage in school with D97, and how you can help shape what comes next.”

A representative from Oak Park Elementary School District 97, likely Chief Operations and Technology Michael Arensdorf, is expected to be at the workshop to provide information and answer questions.

Food and childcare will be provided at the workshop.

Screen Sense Oak Park was founded earlier this year by Johnson and other parents concerned that their children were getting too much screen time, especially in school. Johnson recently called for D97 to end its practice of giving every elementary school student an iPad.
