Raymond L. Greeley III, 72, died on Father’s Day, June 21, 2026. Born on Oct. 3, 1953, at Elmhurst Hospital, he is survived by his children, Caitlin and Logan; his sister, Evelyn; and his grandson, Edwin.

Ray embraced life with boundless energy and curiosity, making meaningful contributions to every community he joined. He excelled in athletics, competing in collegiate wrestling at LSU while earning his bachelor’s degree, then built a successful career with the Park District of Oak Park, before becoming a private contractor and property investor.

But it was in 1995 that Ray truly found his tribe when he joined the Oak Park Runners Club. In 2011, he met his future wife, Annie there. They celebrated their marriage in the middle of a Monday Night Fun Run at Lindberg Park, with their club family cheering them on.

Ray’s adventurous spirit led him to salsa dancing, hiking, car camping and spontaneous road trips across the country. He found joy in gardening, cooking, and maintaining his health and fitness. His playful spirit and ability to make people laugh touched many.

In his downtime, he cultivated vibrant gardens (often sharing tips on the Oak Park Garden Club Facebook group) and whipped up healthy, delicious meals that perfectly complemented his fitness-focused lifestyle.

Above all, Ray was a source of laughter and lightness. His playful spirit and infectious humor left an indelible mark. He will be forever remembered at the starting line and in the hearts of his Oak Park Running Club community.

Ray died competing in a 10K Father’s Day race in Portage, Indiana, exactly where he belonged: in motion, pushing his limits, and doing what he loved.
