In March Oak Park Elementary School District 97 sent out layoff notices to eight teachers. But just a month later four of those teachers have been called back and will be teaching in the district next year.
The teachers who were called back are Brenda Martinez, a bilingual teacher at Percy Julian Middle School, Vanessa Guerrero, an art teacher at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School, elementary school teachers Jaz’Mun Brooks and Megan Stout. Brooks, who is currently teaching first grade at Beye School, is being assigned to Hatch School next year while Stout, who currently teaches first grade at Hatch, is being assigned to Longfellow. Their specific teaching assignments have not yet been finalized.
