Dana Maki Robertson, 70, of Chicago, died peacefully on Oct. 2, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on Feb. 9, 1955, in Chicago, he grew up in Hyde Park, attended Kenwood High School, and later graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago.

He lived a life marked by humor, devotion to family and to his art. He was first and foremost a local artist known for his oil and acrylic-based abstract paintings, and an artisan whose carpentry and woodworking filled the rooms of many homes in the area. Even after finishing his productive art years, and while battling cancer and a number of other health issues, he remained an active member of the Northside art community and could always be found at new gallery openings. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hiking, playing blues on the guitar, and spending time with his family. His warmth and steady presence will be deeply missed.

Dana was the father of Simon (Lulu) Robertson and Aaron (Maris) Robertson, both OPRF High School graduates, who will remember him for his camaraderie, guidance, and sense of humor. He is also survived by his mother, Vivian Robertson, and three brothers, Eric (JoAnn), Preston (Edna) and Stuart (Çiğdem) Robertson; his ex-wife, Stephanie Eiger, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Robertson, and a brother, David.

A private Celebration of Life will be held October 19.
