Last week, Wednesday Journal ran its annual State of the Athletic Program story, airing thoughts from Oak Park and River Forest High School athletic director Nicole Ebsen and Fenwick High School athletic director Scott Thies.

This week, we hear from Trinity High School athletic director Ken Trendel.

Athletic director Ken Trendel’s sixth season

Assessment of last season: “Coach [Kim] Coleman and the basketball program made another great run, which brought a lot of excitement to Trinity. Falling to the eventual (Class 3A) state champs (Montini Catholic) and giving them their closest game in the state series is something that all of Blazer Nation is proud of.

“Individually, Molly McGreal had a fantastic junior year, qualifying for state in both cross country and track. In the swimming pool last fall, the Blazers set a number of program records, including in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay. On the soccer pitch, the Blazers are rebuilding and took a big step forward last year. Forward Grace Ramel notched her 75th career goal in the final week of the season and looks poised to reach 100 goals for her career.”

General state of the program: “New years always bring about new opportunities and this year is no different with the addition of flag football and cheer at Trinity. We are always looking for the ways we can complement the academic experience at Trinity High School and play a role in the process of empowering young women.”

Goals for this year: “The goal is always to learn and grow and we have plenty of room for both at Trinity. Our department truly wants to live the mission of Trinity High School and find ways to empower young women and mold future leaders. We are so proud of the leadership opportunities our girls get and they always know they are the pride and joy of our department. They represent Trinity in wins and losses with pride.”
