Thank you, Mr. Trainor, for your Viewpoint about the fitness of Joe Biden to run again for President and how ageism plays a role in many people’s concerns [Should Biden run again? Ken Trainor, Viewpoints, Feb. 15]. Any candidate can potentially suffer an acute or progressive mental or physical illness that can impair their ability to serve. Strokes happen to people of all ages. Whether you favor Ron DeSantis or J.B. Pritzker, both could stand to lose some weight — will you withhold your vote based on that? The people of Pennsylvania elected Sen. John Fetterman, even though he had suffered a stroke and has a history of clinical depression, because he was the best candidate for the job. That should be our criteria: Who will best represent our views and move our nation forward?
