The Oak Park and River Forest High School girls golf team shot a 371 to finish third at the West Suburban Conference meet on Sept. 21 at Willow Crest Golf Club in Oak Brook.

The Huskies had three individuals awarded medals. Elle Tanner shot a 90 to place 10th, Trinity Mosher shot a 92 to finish 13th and Emmy Amstutz shot 93 to place 15th.

“I’m really proud of this group,” said OPRF coach Matt McMurray. “This was the highest place we’ve had in the conference during my six-year tenure as varsity coach. They’re coming together and playing their best golf at the right time of the season.”

OPRF will compete in the IHSA Class 2A St. Ignatius Regional at Cog Hill in Lemont on Sept. 29.

“I’m excited to see how we finish the state series, and for the team we’ll have next season,” McMurray said.

OPRF boys golf

The OPRF boys golf team placed sixth at the West Suburban Conference meet Sept. 20 at Prairie Bluff Golf Club in Crest Hill.

The Huskies shot a team total of 330. Jacob Goldberg (80), Luke Roberts (82), and Kevin Cortez (83) were OPRF’s top individuals.

“We lost our four best players from last year, so this year has been a great opportunity for a lot of younger guys to get experience,” said OPRF coach Bill Young.

The Huskies now turn their attention to the IHSA Class 3A Loyola Regional on Sept. 28. Young feels his youthful team will benefit from the experience.

“We’re hoping to string together some good 18-hole scores,” he said. “We hope to be competitive and get better individually and as a team.”

Fenwick girls golf

The Fenwick High School girls golf team carded a score of 379 to finish fourth at the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference meet Sept. 22 at Woodruff Golf Course in Joliet.

The Friars had two individuals earn all-conference honors with top-10 finishes. Kathryn Sweeney shot an 80 to come in fourth, while Charlotte Bateman’s 84 was good for tenth.

Fenwick coach Mike Trankina felt the team’s showing at the conference meet wasn’t its best. But the Friars bounced back nicely by winning the DePaul Prep Invitational on Sept. 24, with Sweeney and Bateman placing first and second respectively. Trankina said he feels Fenwick looks sharp heading into the IHSA Class 2A St. Ignatius Regional on Sept. 29.

“St. Ignatius is a great, friendly rivalry and we’re very evenly matched,” he said of the regional host Wolfpack.
