I can’t remember the precise moment I met Cate Readling, but over the course of a few years I began to notice a certain individual at community events — a person I recognized for her attentive, welcoming presence. She was checking people in at a meeting of IGOV (Oak Park Intergovernmental Collaboration), greeting people arriving for a panel discussion on taxation reform, and organizing groups for post-screening discussion of the America to Me documentary about race at OPRF High School. When I volunteered on campaigns to pass the Fair Tax Amendment and re-elect Kim Foxx, to help elect Kina Collins to Congress, and to end cash bail, she was there — never just showing up, like me, but organizing and leading. What I recognized each time our paths crossed was not only Cate’s natural leadership but also her warmth, directness, and authentic interest in every person she meets.

Since moving to Oak Park a decade ago, she has been a force in the community. She’s been not only a consistent and articulate advocate for progressive causes but also a galvanizing presence getting things done. She fosters relationships and conversations, collaborates on ideas and action, and listens attentively and respectfully. Her positive spirit, can-do energy, passion for good, and fresh vision are what the village board and Oak Park need in this pivotal moment for our community.

This is what I know about Cate Readling, and why I am supporting her for Village President. Please join me.
