Rev. Joseph E. Auer, 89, retired priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago and former associate pastor at St. Linus Parish in Oak Lawn, died on Dec. 14, 2020. Born on May 6, 1931, in Pittsburgh, he attended St. Edmund Catholic School in Oak Park, Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein. Ordained on May 3, 1957 by Cardinal Samuel Stritch, he celebrated his first solemn Mass at St. Edmund Church.
He served in a number of parishes and was pastor at St. Catherine Laboure Parish in Glenview. He loved sports and was a great fan of Notre Dame football.
Visitation and Mass were held on Dec. 19, 2020 at St. Linus Church in Oak Lawn, followed by private interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in River Grove.
