Although I appreciate the work our Oak Park police do, in order that our police can focus on carjacking, robberies, and burglaries, the village board must provide alternative individuals to handle homelessness, mental health, and domestic disputes.
Along with the rest of the U.S., Oak Park must take actions such as preventing chokeholds, thoroughly training the police force in de-escalation techniques, and restrictions on the use of lethal force.
As the police contract is negotiated, it must not include qualified immunity.
