Looking for a way to celebrate National Fried Chicken Day? Ditch the drive through on July 6th and savor some locally made fried chicken. Fried chicken is an all-American indulgence and these restaurants will keep you out of the kitchen on July 6th. No matter when you choose to celebrate any of these fried chicken meals  should be clucking delicious!

 1. White Fence Farm: This mini chain has been breading and frying fresh chickens since the 1920’s and considered to be an Illinois restaurant icon. White Fence Farm’s chicken is pressure cooked and then flash-fried to order in a super-secret coating specially made in Chicago for the chicken focused restaurant. The original White Fence Farm is a full-service restaurant with an expanded menu located in Romeoville, Illinois, but they have a carry-out focused spot in Riverside, Illinois. Their golden fried chicken, served alongside coleslaw, mashed potatoes, and hush-puppies, set us back $8.50. Just don’t expect a plate if you opt to dine in; the chicken at the Riverside location comes in a box.

2. Firecakes: This little Oak Park shop is peddling some classic doughnuts as well as a few more creative menu options like (brace yourself) a maple bacon slider. Marrying savory and sweet, this mini fried chicken sandwich is served with Nueske’s bacon and maple cream sauce on a honey glazed doughnut. Whoa. Traditionalists will appreciate Firecakes’ full sized classic chicken sandwich, too.

Priscilla’s Ultimate Soulfood: $10 will get you a filling meal at this 15 year-old southern influenced cafeteria. Despite offering a significant array of entree choices, Priscilla’s fried chicken remains the most popular menu item at the restaurant. Priscilla’s chicken is not brined or marinated before deep frying, but simply tossed with a coating littered with a bevy of spices. The chicken has all the hallmarks of traditional Southern fried chicken: a crunchy exterior and tender meat.

Served with a side of waffles, cinnamon butter, and maple syrup this fried chicken becomes a sweet and savory combination. Enjoy a half chicken with two waffles for $18.50 at the Madison Street mainstay.
