COURTESY PRO MUSICA YOUTH CHORUS
(Oak Park, Illinois – September 8, 2014) — Stephen Sondheim once said: “If I cannot fly, let me sing.” The members of Pro Musica Youth Chorus know exactly what the famous composer and lyricist meant, as they are once again feeling the exhilaration associated with song. The young vocalists, ages 5 to 18, recently kicked off rehearsals for the 2014-2015 choral season.
“We are providing great opportunities for children of all ages to experience the unparalleled joy of singing in a group,” says Bill Chin, conductor. “The students are given the chance to learn a wide variety of music from classical to rock to Broadway and more. We also provide many performance opportunities, from formal concerts to choral festivals to fundraisers. And we let the students experience what it is like to put on a show in diverse venues from rock clubs to sports stadiums to Chicago Symphony Center.”
For the upcoming season, the chorus already is slated to present a winter concert, sing with the Joffrey Ballet, and deliver “Singing Valentines.”
“No matter what we are doing, I try to make sure the choristers are truly enjoying the experience. So, the members of the choir are always having fun. At the same time, they are always learning something and growing as vocalists,” said Carling FitzSimmons, associate conductor. “What’s amazing, though, is that they benefit so much from the experience, gaining musical knowledge, becoming more poised performers – and developing the overall confidence and self-esteem that will help them in so many endeavors.”
Pro Musica Youth Chorus is still accepting new singers for all ensembles – Melody Makers (ages 5 to 8); Primo Coro (ages 8 and older); Canterini (ages 10 and older); Pro Musica (ages 12 to 18); and A Capella (ages 12 to 18) – for the upcoming season.
