We use butter in my house. My son likes buttered bread. I will use a little dab in the pan sometimes instead of my olive oil sprayer. And then of course, there are pancakes. We use enough butter, but not enough, that for years I have wanted a butter dish.
It can take us a week or two to go through a stick of butter. Maybe longer, I’ve never quite timed it.
Butter in our house, is just fine on the counter, soft, ready to use. (Oh goodness, yes, I leave the butter out for days.) But it’s not just fine on the counter, sitting out on a plate. I also can’t stand taking butter in and out of the fridge in the wax paper. That just gets messy and old, torn, over used.
For years I have been looking for a butter dish solution.
I didn’t want something too big. I didn’t want something too breakable. My son is only five and is prone to helping himself to things when you least expect it.
Rubbermaid didn’t have it. Sometimes I would use a “not quite right” sized plastic container. Then the butter would be INSIDE the container – not on a dish, not easy to cut a little sliver off. Soft on the counter butter just became a mess inside the container.
One day recently I found this butter dish at Pan’s. I’ve never seen one like it. It’s a pretty color, acrylic, and clear enough so that I know it’s clean or has butter in it. It has a fun retro look to it. The top fits in place – it doesn’t slide around the way some ceramic versions do. The bottom is a perfect flat surface with grids to keep the butter from sliding back and forth.
It was under $5. I bought it on the spot.
And I use it. I love it.
