I think we work hard in this house to inspire my children to sing. This summer we spent our listening car hours, our house cleaning hours, our book reading hours devoted to learning and listening to musicals. It was pretty fantastic. My 9 and 5 year olds were even singing in unison to some parts, “Matchmaker Matchmaker make me a match.” The other then would chime in, “Find me a Find”. We all really got into it. Yes, of course the carols are blaring in house at this time of year.

My daughter has participated in Jr CAST’s summer program at Julian for the past two years. This year she is in chorus and band at Lincoln school, she’s taking private piano lessons from Mrs. Christine Dame, but she still can’t get enough. She really wants more time to be musical.

It’s why the new options from a local voice coach Kim Frost are super appealing to us. Kim is an Oak Parker, and she’s been teaching children and adults in the area privately for years on how to conquer their breath support issues and vocalize in high style.

Mostly, I know Kim because we both have a close friend in common. And now we are friends – full disclosure. But, I became familiar with Kim through the local female vocal group The Ladies of the Canyon. This tribute type group picks a different artist and performs maybe twice a year at Fitzgeralds. They rocked Donna Summer on a seriously bitterly cold night 1 or 2 winters ago. Most recently, their Janis Joplin inspired show made all of us in the audience wish we could come back weekly for more. All of the women that sing out at the concerts have day jobs, are vocal coaches or sing for a living. And when they get together it’s a super great treat.

So here is the scoop:

Starting in just a few weeks (so make sure you sign up very soon) JANUARY 12 through MARCH 16 Kim is offering two age groups some vocal group training. Frankly, my pocket book loves this idea too.
