Tennis may not be your first choice of winter sports.
But it is for many River Foresters, as members of the River Forest Platform Tennis League have been playing weekly matches at Keystone Park since January.
The sport, which has elements of both tennis and racquet ball, is played on courts that are approximately 1/3 of the size of a normal tennis court. Platform tennis racquets also differ greatly from traditional tennis racquets, as they are made from plastic and contain small holes.
“Platform tennis is fairly new to the Oak Park River Forest area,” said David Welch, a member in the league. “They just put these two courts in last spring.”
Welch said that approximately 60 people have joined River Forest’s Platform Tennis League.
