River Forest’s Roosevelt Middle School has been recognized as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School—one of only five middle schools in the state to receive the designation.

The 269 schools to be recognized by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan were named based on their overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving academic achievement, according to a statement from District 90. Roosevelt qualified in the “Exemplary High Performing” category, which is measured by state assessments or national tests.

The 219 public and 50 private schools will be honored at a ceremony Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C.
