Lalo’s, a Mexican restaurant that has been serving Oak Park for more than 30 years, announced Friday the restaurant will be separating from the franchise and operating under a new name — Margaritas.

The new name, however, doesn’t mean a change in flavor.

“We’ve had many wonderful years in the Oak Park community with the pleasure of serving multiple generations of customers,” Rene Roman, Lalo’s of Oak Park’s owner said. “My staff and I have developed so many meaningful relationships with our customers over the years, and we look forward to continuing this under our new name, Margaritas.”

Roman explained that operating under the franchise limited freedom and creativity in the kitchen, and this change will allow the chef to spice the menu up. Many of the same dishes will still be available, but Roman is looking forward to mixing things up, especially with more seafood dishes.

“Everything will be pretty much the same — only better,” Roman said about his restaurant at 804 S. Oak Park Ave. This includes the famous margaritas that will soon fit right in under the new name. The name switch will occur in September.

Technology changes are also in store for Margaritas as Roman will be using social media to keep customers in the loop. A mobile website will also be introduced.
