I’m easily dating myself here: remember that inane Bobby McFerrin song “Dont worry, be happy” – who can forget, right? The message, however still resonates with me. As the days grow shorter and darker, I find the cure to this gloom is to grab & go with bold, pops of color. Focus your senses on a few seasonal picks that bring fun to your wardrobe, and you will immediately feel…confident, and happy.
For Today’s Style tip I am featuring several items from Pretty Little Things, on Madison Street. Here, the fun has just begun..this shop is busting with cool earth -friendly and hip stuff. I am feeling the chill, so head straight to the table loaded down with super cute & cozy knitted hats $28 & fingerless gloves $21, made by Maria Czubernat from LaGrange Park. I have become obsessed with these hats: they are a marriage of french beret, and grunge cap, in the loveliest way. I’m seriously coveting the raspberry one, and the silver/ grey stripe is divine, as shown on Mary Lee Culligan, an innocent shopper I coerced into model servitude.
You will be tempted to buy a Rebe organic cotton dress in bright purple, $ 78.00 summer sale; and wear it as a tunic, layered over one of their cute Lobster t-shirt & skinny jeans. Earrings from Chicago jeweler, Red Ava, $32. and leather & brass wrap bracelets, $46 will round out this casual weekend outfit, but wait there’s more: these bracelets with semi – precious stones double as a necklace.
The Proprietor’s of this fanciful boutique are sisters: Signe Heart & Binky Stephenson. Their love of all things pretty inspired them to open their shop last Spring. Included are a collection of housewares, apparel & accessories for women, men & the wee ones. A unique collection created by local artisans, and around the country; is what the Sisters call “the best of the underground craft movement”.
Get prepared early for the upcoming ugly months; look good, feel happy & shop local!
