Yeah, boy, thank God they finally finished that Chicago – Kansas City Expressway, huh? Yep, why just yesterday I got out on “110”, took her all the way out past Hillside. Man, you should have seen all those cars and trucks with Missouri plates coming back in eastbound.
The traffic used to be a mess, but traveling on the new highway 110 is a breeze. Why, now I can travel to Kansas City Royals games without going through that infernal “Des Moines Bottleneck!” Really….who hasn’t died in that parking lot?
Anyway, God bless the insightful souls at the Tri-State Development Summit for thoughtfully developing (cuz that’s what they do, they develop things!) a sleek new corridor – seemingly pieced together on Google Maps – that thankfully skirts Quincy, Illinois. Now, there are some nay-sayers that point out that the TSD board is peopled by Quincy power brokers, but I say “good on them.” I, for one, can’t wait to patronize the new Taco Bell or whatever else may appear on the fringes of their fair burg.
Or, on the fringes of Hannibal.
This is exciting stuff, people. This is our generation’s Route 66, and I can’t wait for the nostalgia to begin. And thank goodness the State of Illinois – empty checkbook and all! – found $94, 000 to produce all those signs to lead us to…… Kansas City.
